The give box has received little attention lately, so with a few signs on site (and this blog post), we would like to explain what it is

You can exchange items free of charge in our give box at Bernsdorfer Kreuz. Items that you no longer want, but are still good for others. This way, others can still enjoy the items you have sorted out. Together, we can continue to use items that are still in good condition, rather than throwing them away.

Renovation

In the near future, we will rebuild the (now somewhat outdated) give box together. To do this, we want to finally open our workshop and do this together with you in a workshop/skill share, where you can learn how to work with wood. See you soon!

Notes / Rules

Do not leave broken items. The give box is a place for nice things that you no longer want/need, not a rubbish dump.
Please make sure that your items are weatherproof or packaged appropriately.
Leave the give box tidy so that others can enjoy browsing too :)

Exhibition »Unseen, Unheared, Unwanted«

As WkB e.V., we are delighted to be hosting the exhibition “Unseen, Unheard, Unwanted.”

The exhibition is an invitation to explore power, space, and identity. In the exhibition, the queer-feminist art collectives “Out of Order” from Chemnitz and “Richtung22” from Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg, Capital of Culture 2022) create a space in the Stadtwirtschaft for perspectives that are often suppressed in everyday life, on the streets, in the art scene, and in politics. The works of around 20 regional and international emerging artists are as diverse as the artists themselves: uncomfortable, tender, pure, angry, poetic, political, simple, honest. Accompanied by a colorful program of participatory events, we join forces with all visitors to create a counterpoint to ignorance, repression, and intolerance.

In a world dominated by smooth surfaces and prestige, we want to create a counterpoint: an exhibition of voices that are often overlooked or remain invisible.

Who gets space and why?
Who owns the city?
Who is allowed to develop freely and safely?

Amidst a shift to the right, crises, and growing uncertainties, we ask these questions aloud and provide answers in the form of art.

Can I be the person I choose to be?
And can I be that person everywhere?

These are central questions of the exhibition, reflecting the different realities of people who have intensively grappled with their gender and social identity.

Video works, oil paintings, sculptures, and other works question established norms, address body hatred and shame, and document the search for one’s own boundaries and the pure happiness of being seen as the person one is. In workshops and discussions with artists, ideas are sought on how we can leave outdated structures behind us—for a more loving coexistence.

Event series »Feed the River«

What if we assumed that rivers are living beings and, like all living beings, need to be nourished?

With the concert series “feed the river,” we approached Chemnitz with a week of music and attention in September 2024. During the driest time of the year, when the rivers in our region reach their lowest levels, we wanted to give the river in our city an infusion of attention by organizing small site-specific concerts and musical interactions on its banks.

Our music program was accompanied by a radio documentary, a guided tour of the flora and fauna, a film screening, a workshop, and a lecture by the Chemnitz Historical Society, which provided further insights into music and environmental education. Feed the River is an attempt to emphatically perceive what surrounds us and to stimulate a sensory engagement with the climate crisis through sound art and improvisation. It is about experiencing the connection between human existence and flowing water in a fluid medium, music, and exploring together how we can stay in flow with the world.
