The Necks sind eine der großen Kultbands Australiens.

Chris Abrahams (Klavier), Tony Buck (Schlagzeug) und Lloyd Swanton (Bass) zaubern eine Chemie zusammen, die sich einer orthodoxen Beschreibung entzieht. Mit ihren langen Stücken, die sich langsam und auf höchst faszinierende Weise entwickeln und häufig von einem eindringlichen, tiefen Groove getragen werden, halten die achtzehn Alben von The Necks einem wiederholten Hören stand. Die trügerische Einfachheit ihrer Musik entfaltet bei jedem Hören neue Reize. Die Musik von The Necks ist weder Avantgarde, noch minimalistisch, noch Ambient, noch Jazz, sondern möglicherweise einzigartig auf der Welt. Die Los Angeles Times sprach von einer „Zauberertruppe, die sich als Klaviertrio ausgibt“.
